Take A Stand Statements


1.    Americans continue to value our identity as a “Nation of Immigrants.”
    
2.    Illegal/undocumented immigrants are not interested in becoming Americanized and are a threat to the fabric of our nation.

3. Not accepting Syrian refugees would be a betrayal of our values as a nation.

4. We cannot allow terrorists to take advantage of our compassion, it is better to be safe than sorry.

5. To safeguard our nation only Christian Syrians should be granted asylum.

Historical Scenarios to Consider

1. It's 1939, Adolf Hitler has established a dictatorship in Germany. His authoritarian and aggressive policies include extreme anti-semitism. It has been proposed to bring to this country 10,000 refugee children from Germany -most of them Jewish- to be taken care of in American homes. Should the government permit these children to come in?

2. It's May 1975 and Saigon has fallen to the North Vietnamese and has officially become Ho Chi Minh City. Thousands of poor South Vietnamese fearing communist imposed rule and reprisals of the North have taken to boasts to flee the country ("boat people"). Should the United States government take these refugees in considering the costliness of the Vietnam War in lives and treasure as well as t


Today, an estimated 12.5 million Syrians are displaced, up from less than 1 million in 2011, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of global refugee data. Displaced Syrians worldwide include those internally displaced within Syria, refugees living in neighboring countries or relocated to other countries like Canada and the U.S., and those in Europe awaiting a decision on their asylum application.
